K STEEL

Material used exclusively in the manufacture of cylindrical thread rolling dies or planetary thread rolling dies for "soft" applications, i.e. applications with a low mechanical demand. K material has been developed by HEROSLAM along with the leading producers of special steels in order to offer our customers the best alternative to D2 material on the market in terms of both quality and performance. The K material's increased resistance to wear and tear extends the service life of our customers' tools, in addition to offering a greater consistency of the main dimensions of threaded parts. HEROSLAM recommends using K steel to thread parts with a hardness of less than 28HRC. Likewise, using K is NOT recommended for threading stainless steel parts.

Choosing the right steel for each thread rolling application is fundamental to achieving a good die performance. For this reason, we produce our thread rolling dies with a wide range of steels depending on each customer’s needs

Working closely with our preferred steel providers, we are pioneers in R&D for developing special steel alloys and new materials conceived to increase die life and improve our tool’s performance.

Materials

Heat Treatment and Coatings

We have our own facilities for heat treatment and coatings made in-house. Because of this, we are a benchmark in research and development of special coatings that increase the service life of our thread rolling tools. This has allowed us to develop and market our special NIT and GOGOR (GG) coatings, highly recognized within the fastener industry for improving tool performance in difficult thread rolling applications such as hard to roll parts after heat treatment (8.8, 10.9, 12.9 classes) or hard to roll materials such as stainless steel, titanium, or inconel.

Thread rolling tools made by grinding process achieve better profile precision and longer tool life than tools made by milling or machining process. For this reason, we are experts in grinding technology, thus meeting the highest standards in profile quality and precision, guaranteeing an excellent tool performance

All our thread rolling dies are manufactured in-house “from-beginning-to-end", including heat treatment and coating.

Own Technology

Thanks to our wide experience exclusively focused in thread rolling solutions, we design our own thread profiles and special RROs. Thanks to our advanced grinding technology and our modern state-of-the-art CNC equipment, we produce dies with customized profiles and RRO features for the specific needs of our customers, thus, achieving top quality threads and long service life of our tools
